About

Mike Flewwelling - Head Coach

Mike Flewwelling has been involved in Freestyle since 1982. He competed for the Central Team based out of Red Deer for 8 years at a local, provincial, and national level. For the first 5 years he competed in Moguls, Aerials, and Acro. During his final 3 years with Central, Mike was an aerial specialist. This is his 7th year coaching for the Edmonton Team, and 2nd as Head Coach. Mike also has a teaching degree from the University of Lethbridge and taught High School for 5 years before he started coaching. Even though Mike is an old codger, he can still throw down from time to time. Mike is currently certified at level 1.

Jeff Davidson - Coach

Jeff Davidson has been a part of NAFSC going on 8 years. Jeff started freestyle in the bumps and jumps group at the age of 10 and moved up to the club group in the next few years. Jeff competed for 5 years at club level in moguls, air and slope-style, at both provincial and national level. Jeff is now 18 and currently pursuing a post secondary education, getting his bachelor of science. Jeff loves the sport and can not wait for the many years of coaching he plans to be a part of.

Nikki Turner - Coach

Nikki Turner is coaching for her second year at the club level.  She has her level 1 freestyle coaching course, and 2 years of competition in both moguls and big air under her belt.  Nikki started with the Edmonton Freestyle Club back when it was NAFSC in 2003, and competed for the team at the provincial and national level from 2005-2007.  Now she spends her time working towards an engineering degree at the University of Alberta.  But manages to have more than enough time to ride local hills during the week, and venture to the mountains on weekends.  Nikki has been skiing since the age of 3 and does not intend on stopping anytime soon.

Some history of NAFSC from the memory banks of Dustin Wilson.

I have been asked to recollect my personal experience of NAFSC.

My involvement with skiing began at a very young age.

As a young boy from Edmonton my parents both ski patrolled at Marmott Basin in Jasper so winters for me from a very young age involved a weekend adventure in the motor home to the mountains. I dreamed of what the snow was going to be like staring out the window of the bunk over the cab of the motor home every time we hit Hwy 16 west until I would fall asleep (usually before Edson as my mom’s tells me).
